On May 9, the Senate passed, by unanimous consent, a bill (H.R. 360) to award posthumously a Congressional Gold Medal to Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wesley who lost their lives in the bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. The bombing served as a catalyst for the Civil Rights Movement. The House passed H.R. 360 on April 24 (see The Source, 4/26/13). President Barack Obama is expected to sign the measure into law.
