Floor Action:

The House and Senate are in session this week.

Military- This week, the Senate is scheduled to continue its consideration of S. 1605, the compromise version of the FY2022 National Defense Authorization Act. The measure contains provisions to address sexual assault in the military, provide parental leave and health care for trafficking victims, and would require the Department of Defense to report on gender, race, and ethnicity demographics, among other provisions.

Mark-Ups:

Military- On Wednesday, the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee will mark up several bills, including S. 3196, the Improving Protections for Midshipmen Act. The bill would address sexual harassment and sexual assault at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Veterans- On Wednesday, the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee will consider several bills, including S. 2533, the Making Advances in Mammography and Medical Options (MAMMO) for Veterans Act, and S. 3025, the Servicemembers and Veterans Empowerment and Support Act, which would expand health care and benefits for military sexual trauma.

Women’s History- On Wednesday, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will mark up several bills, including H.R. 1444, a bill to designate the “Patsy Cline Post Office.”

H.R. 6149—Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-PA)/Energy and Commerce (12/7/21)—A bill to develop and test an expanded and advanced role for direct-care workers who provide long-term services and supports to older adults and people with disabilities in efforts to coordinate care and improve the efficiency of service delivery, and for other purposes.

S. 3357—Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ)/Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (12/9/21)—A bill to substantially restrict the use of animal testing for cosmetics.

S. 3362—Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA)/Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (12/9/21)—A bill to require the Healthy People Maternal, Infant, and Child Health Workgroup and the Maternal Health Working Group to establish a formal coordinated approach for monitoring maternal health efforts across the Department of Health and Human Services.

H.R. 6207—Rep. Don Beyer, Jr. (D-VA)/Energy and Commerce (12/9/21)—A bill to substantially restrict the use of animal testing for cosmetics.

International

H. Res. 842—Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA)/Foreign Affairs (12/7/21)—A resolution condemning the sexual and gender-based violence against women and girls in Ethiopia and emphasizing the urgent demand for humanitarian responses to meet their needs.

S. Res. 474—Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL)/Foreign Relations (12/8/21)—A resolution demanding that the Communist Party of China prove that Peng Shuai is free from censorship, coercion, and intimidation and fully investigate the sexual assault allegations against former Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli.

H.R. 6209—Rep. Anthony Brown (D-MD)/Armed Services (12/9/21)—A bill to improve information collection and reporting on sexual assaults and racial and ethnic demographics in the military justice system, and for other purposes.

H.R. 6210—Rep. Anthony Brown (D-MD)/Armed Services (12/9/21)—A bill to direct the secretary of Defense to report to Congress on the status of the implementation of certain recommendations of the Independent Review Commission on Sexual Assault in the Military, and for other purposes.

Small Business

H.R. 6189—Rep. Joe Neguse (D-CO)/Small Business (12/8/21)—A bill to establish an Office of Emerging Markets within the Small Business Administration that will strengthen the development of small business concerns in emerging markets, including those owned by women, minorities, veterans, and those located in rural areas, and for other purposes.
