Congress Moves Bills Honoring Former Reps. Jo Ann Davis and Julia Carson

On April 9, the House approved, by voice vote, H.R. 5489 and H.R. 5472, bills to name post office buildings after former Reps. Jo Ann Davis (R-VA) and Julia Carson (D-IN), respectively. Sponsored by Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA), H.R. 5489 would designate a post office in Gloucester, Virginia, as the “Congresswoman Jo Ann S. Davis Post Office.” H.R. 5472, sponsored by Rep. Peter Visclosky (D-IN), would designate a post office in Indianapolis as the “Julia M. Carson Post Office Building.” The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee approved the measures on March 13 (see The Source, 3/14/08).

Senate Committee

On April 10, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee approved, by voice vote, S. 2354 and S. 2725, bills to designate post offices named for Reps. Julia Carson and Jo Ann Davis.
