On October 30, the Senate approved, by voice vote, S. 2258, a bill to extend programs under the Higher Education Act (HEA) (P.L. 105-244). That same day, the House passed the measure by voice vote. The House approved a similar bill, H.R. 3927, on October 23 (see The Source, 10/26/07). Unlike the previous measure, S. 2258 would extend the HEA until March 31, 2008, and clarify which lenders qualify as nonprofit lenders under the College Cost Reduction Act (P.L. 110-84).
