Cost-of-Living Increase Approved By House Committee

On June 22, the House Veterans’ Committee approved, by voice vote, legislation (H.R. 4843) that would authorize a cost-of-living adjustment for disabled veterans and their dependents as of December 1, 2006. Sponsored by Rep. Jeff Miller (R-FL), the bill states that the rate of increase is the same as that used for Social Security benefits.

The committee approved, by voice vote, an amendment by Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-NV) that would expand the increase to include monthly payments for spouses with minor children who have lost a husband or wife in the line of duty.
