House, Senate Pass Bills to Fund Human Trafficking Hotline

On November 28, the Senate passed, by unanimous consent, S. 2974, a bill to ensure funding for the National Human Trafficking Hotline, sponsored by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN). On November 29, the House passed, by voice vote, an identical version of the bill, H.R. 5422, sponsored by Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX).

The purpose of the bill is to redirect funds for the National Human Trafficking Hotline from the Department of Justice to the Department of Health and Human Services, which runs the hotline.

The House bill was approved by the Judiciary Committee on November 16 (see The Source, 11/18/16).
