Senate Committee Approves Bills to Encourage Women in Entrepreneurship, STEM

On January 24, the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee approved H.R. 255, the Promoting Women in Entrepreneurship Act, sponsored by Rep. Elizabeth Esty (D-CT), and H.R. 321, the Inspiring the Next Space Pioneers, Innovators, Researchers, and Explorers (INSPIRE) Women Act, sponsored by Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-VA). 

Women in Entrepreneurship Act

The legislation would authorize the National Science Foundation to support entrepreneurial programs for women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

The House passed the bill on January 10 (see The Source, 1/13/17).

INSPIRE Women Act

Among other provisions, the legislation would require the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to establish outreach programs to encourage women and girls to pursue opportunities in STEM fields and careers in aerospace.
