Senate Committee Votes to Reauthorize Adam Walsh Bill

On April 14, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved, by voice vote, S. 2613, the Adam Walsh Reauthorization Act.

Sponsored by Chair Charles Grassley (R-IA), the bill would authorize $20 million in fiscal years (FY) 2017 and 2018 for the sex offender management assistance program and the Jessica Lunsford Address Verification Grant program. In addition, the measure would authorize $61.3 million annually in FY2017 and 2018 for the U.S. Marshals Service, which assists states and local jurisdictions in tracking down sex offenders.

As amended, the bill includes provisions to enhance the rights of sexual assault survivors.
