On December 1, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee approved, by voice vote, the Gynecological Cancer Education and Awareness Act (H.R. 2941). The House passed H.R. 2941 in September (see The Source, 10/1/10).
According to the committee report, H.R. 2941, sponsored by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), would authorize $18 million annually for FY2012-2014 to reauthorize Johanna’s Law, which directs the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to conduct a campaign to increase awareness of gynecological cancers. Other activities authorized by the measure include conducting outreach to state and local governments to determine best practices for providing information and services, and awarding grants to nonprofit organizations to test and compare outreach and education strategies.
