Senate Passes International Megan’s Law

On December 17, the Senate approved, by unanimous consent, H.R. 515, the International Megan’s Law to Prevent Demand for Child Sex Trafficking. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved the legislation on November 10; the House passed the bill on January 26 (see The Source, 11/13/15).

The measure would establish the Angel Watch Center within the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which would, among other provisions, receive, maintain, and archive information on international travel by registered child sex offenders. As amended, the bill would authorize $6 million in FY2017 and 2018 to carry out the bill’s requirements.
