Senate Passes Sex Offender Bill

On December 17, the Senate passed, by unanimous consent, the Strengthening Investigations of Sex Offenders and Missing Children Act (S. 1792). The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the bill on December 1, 2011 (see The Source, 12/2/11).

Sponsored by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), the measure would clarify the U.S. Marshal Service’s authority to assist, at the request of state and local law enforcement agencies, with investigations involving sex offenders who violate sex offender registry requirements and those involving missing children.
