Senate Sends Defense Authorization Bill to President Obama

On November 10, the Senate approved, 91-3, S. 1356, the FY2016 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The House cleared the measure on November 5 (see The Source, 11/6/15).

The legislation authorizes military programs for the Department of Defense, national security programs at the Department of Energy, and overseas contingency operations. An earlier version of the legislation (H.R. 1735) passed the House and Senate chambers, but was vetoed by President Obama. S. 1356 reflects the adjustments to spending levels made by the compromise legislation, the Bipartisan Budget Act (P.L. 114-74). The president is expected to sign the bill into law.
