The Source for Women’s Issues in Congress: October 8-12, 2018

Floor Action:

Miscellaneous– On October 11, the Senate passed, by unanimous consent, H.R. 6870, a bill to rename the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act of 2012 in honor of the late Rep. Louise McIntosh Slaughter (D-NY). The House passed the measure on September 28 (see The Source, 9/28/18). The Senate vote clears the bill for the president’s signature.

STEM– On October 11, the Senate approved, by unanimous consent, H.R. 6758, the Study of Underrepresented Classes Chasing Engineering and Science Success (SUCCESS) Act, clearing the bill for the president’s signature. The House passed the legislation on September 25 (see The Source, 9/28/18).

The measure would require the U.S. Patent Office and the Small Business Administration to study efforts to increase the number of women and minorities applying for and obtaining patents, and participating in entrepreneurship activities.
