Congressional Schedule: April 17-21, 2023  

Floor Action: 

The House and Senate are in session this week. 

On Wednesday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 734, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.  
 
Hearings: 

Family Support- On Wednesday, the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, and Nutrition will hold a hearing on SNAP and other nutrition assistance in the Farm Bill.

Abortion 

H.R. 2570—Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX)/Energy and Commerce (4/10/23)—A bill to require more accurate reporting of abortion drug prescribing and related adverse events, and for other purposes. 

H.R. 2573—Rep. Pat Ryan (D-NY)/Energy and Commerce (4/10/23)—A bill to express the sense of Congress with respect to federal preemption of state restrictions on dispensing medication abortion, and for other purposes. 

H. Con. Res. 33—Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ)/Energy and Commerce; Judiciary (4/13/23)—A concurrent resolution expressing support for access to medication abortion in the United States. 

Employment 

H.R. 2572—Rep. Deborah Ross (D-NC)/Judiciary (4/10/23)—A bill to establish a Task Force on Women in Law Enforcement to study and develop national hiring standards for law enforcement officers, and for other purposes. 

Human Trafficking 

H.R. 2601—Rep. Laurel Lee (R-FL)/Judiciary (4/13/23)—A bill to require entities that contract with the National Human Trafficking Hotline to cooperate with state and local law enforcement agencies when receiving tips via the Hotline. 

Violence Against Women 

H.R. 2604—Rep. Lucy McBath (D-GA)/Education and the Workforce (4/13/23)—A bill to amend the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act to make improvements. 

Women’s History 

H. Res. 289—Rep. Alma Adams (D-NC)/Energy and Commerce; Financial Services; Transportation and Infrastructure; Education and the Workforce; Judiciary; Natural Resources; Agriculture; Veterans’ Affairs (4/13/23)—A resolution recognizing the designation of the week of April 11 through April 17, 2023, as the sixth annual “Black Maternal Health Week” to bring national attention to the maternal health crisis in the United States and the importance of reducing maternal mortality and morbidity among Black women and birthing persons.
