Congressional Schedule: May 16-20, 2022

Floor Action:

The House and Senate are in session this week. 

Health- This week, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 7790, the Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act.

Veterans-  On Tuesday, the House will consider several bills, including H.R. 5738, the Lactation Spaces for Veteran Moms Act; H.R. 7335, Military Sexual Trauma (MST) Claims Coordination Act; H.R. 6961, Dignity for MST Survivors Act; H.R. 6064, a bill to direct the secretary of Veterans Affairs to seek to enter into an agreement with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine for a review of examinations for compensation for mental and physical conditions linked to military sexual trauma; H.R. 2724, the VA Peer Support Enhancement for MST Survivors Act; S. 2533, the Making Advances in Mammography and Medical Options for Veterans Act; and S. 2102, the Dr. Kate Hendricks Thomas SERVICE Act.  

Hearings: 

Abortion- On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing, “Revoking Your Rights: The Ongoing Crisis in Abortion Care Access.” 

Employment- On Tuesday, the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis will hold a hearing, “Underpaid, Overworked, and Underappreciated: How the Pandemic Economy Disproportionately Harmed Low-Wage Women Workers.” 

Health- On Thursday, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Related Agencies will hold a hearing on the budget request for FDA, which will include questions on the shortage of infant formula.

Violence Against Women- On Wednesday, the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Constitution will hold a hearing, “Stop Gun Violence: The Jackson-Elias Domestic Violence Survivor Protection Act.”

Abortion

H.R. 7715—Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC)/Energy and Commerce (5/11/22)—A bill to require the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to include, to the extent possible, aborted children in death numbers and rates. 

H.R. 7719—Rep. Michelle Fischbach (R-MN)/Judiciary (5/11/22)—A bill to prohibit discrimination by abortion against an unborn child on the basis of results from laboratory developed tests, and for other purposes. 

Education  

H.R. 7709—Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY)/Education and Labor (5/10/22)—A bill to authorize programs to provide college scholarships and educational support to women and girls who have escaped Afghanistan and come to the United States, and for other purposes. 

Employment 

H.R. 7723—Rep. Sean Maloney (D-NY)/Oversight and Reform; Transportation and Infrastructure; Homeland Security; Veterans’ Affairs (5/11/22)—A bill to extend the availability of paid leave for federal employees for purposes relating to COVID-19, and for other purposes; 

Health 

H.R. 7718—Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-IA)/Energy and Commerce (5/11/22)—A bill to direct the secretary of Health and Human Services, acting through the commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, to work through the Codex process to review and update internationally recognized standards for infant formula to ensure that such standards are consistent with the requirements applicable to the importation of infant formula into the United States. 

S.4212—Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA)/Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (5/12/22)—A bill to require the Food and Drug Administration to publish guidelines for parents to prepare baby formula at home. 

Human Trafficking 

S. 4171—Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ)/Foreign Relations (5/10/22)—A bill to reauthorize the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, and for other purposes. 

H.R. 7710—Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI)/Science, Space, and Technology; Small Business (5/10/22)—A bill to establish the National Counter Human Trafficking Research and Development Initiative, and for other purposes. 

Reproductive Health

H. Con. Res. 89—Rep. Nikema Williams (D-GA)/Energy and Commerce; Judiciary (5/12/22)—A resolution expressing opposition to the criminalization of essential health care, including the full range of sexual and reproductive health care such as abortion, gender-affirming care, and contraceptive care, and disapproving of the criminalization of pregnancy outcomes.

H.R. 7698—Rep. Julia Brownley (D-CA)/Veterans’ Affairs (5/10/22)—A bill to designate the outpatient clinic of the Department of Veterans Affairs in Ventura, California, as the “Captain Rosemary Bryant Mariner Outpatient Clinic.”

S. 4193—Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI)/Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs (5/12/22)—A bill to award a Congressional Gold Medal, collectively, to the brave women who served in World War II as members of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and U.S. Navy Nurse Corps.
